We're on Star Trek.com !

October 8th, 2010.

HAILING FREQUENCY podcast now providing audio blogs for the official STAR TREK. COM website.  http://www.startrek.com/article/guest-blog-hailing-frequency-podcast

copied from startrek.com:
Founded in 2005, Hailing Frequency was the first podcast dedicated to Star Trek gaming. They have produced over 120 podcasts and are now the leading source for all Star Trek gaming news. They regularly interview producers from such companies as Cryptic Studios and GameForge.

This podcast marks the first time they have created material specifically for StarTrek.com. The hosts, Zach Nicodemous and Tony Tuthill, take you on a journey through the Star Trek gaming timeline and give you the inside scoop on what games to play. Look for more podcasts from them on StarTrek.com as well as the Hailing Frequency website.
----------------------------------------------------
Y'a know.  We have been featured on many sites and there have been a lot of great moments in the last few years but none that actually fills me with a bit o' pride like being featured on the official Star Trek web site!

Other than hanging out on the various gaming forums over the years, startrek.com was the site where it began for us as gaming podcasters and where many of us met in the early days to decide on doing a community gaming  podcast.

It is truly where many of us met as we came together to wait and brainstorm on Star Trek: Online (the MMORPG).
----------
I was worried a few years back as there was a major overhaul of management and for a long time the site just sat kind of stagnant.  Gaming news was not updated regularly and when Cryptic Studios took over making Star Trek Online, the site showed Perpetual Entertainment as the makers almost right up until launch.

It was truly awesome to finally see our old friend get a make-over and much needed TLC.   The new site is beautiful, full of great stuff including great articles, episodes and extras, gaming news, merchandising etc.   Kudos to CBS for finally getting behind Star Trek (so it seems).

A big thank you to my podcast partner of over five years, Zach Nicodemous.  He made this happen.
He has been working tirelessly to keep Hailing Frequency in the lead as the #1 Star Trek gaming podcast as well as seeing our dream of launching a Star Trek Radio station (http://www.startrekradio.com/  & http://www.sto-radio.com/)

In the last month he has secured interviews with: Tim Russ (Tuvok), Chase Masterson (Leeta), Warp 11( Star Trek band), Rod Roddenberry, Wil Wheaton, etc.   ( Tim Russ, Chase masterson & Warp 11 have already appeared on sto-radio.com)

Thank you for a great day, Startrek.com.
Thank you for another great day, Zach.

Permanent,Star Trek Radio, Chase Masterson, NASA, Rick Sternbach, more celebs.

Quick recap of the past few months:

- New Video: Permanent: The Oldest Story in the World.  Music by Arthur Yoria.
- Started broadcasting on Star Trek Radio (also known as STO-Radio).
- Interviewed Chase Masterson (Leeta. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
- Participated in the NASA/IBEX briefing on the conditions at the edge of the Solar System.
- Set up an interview in October with Dr. Rock Sternbach (Sr. Illustrator, Star Trek:The Next Generation).

On Permanent:  I really wanted to do a 2012 story that incorporates information from Zecharia Sitchin book, 'The Lost Book of Enki', learn flash animation & use the music of Arthur Yoria...   ...as well as create a video submission for the Guggenheim 'YouPlay' event (in conjunction w/ YouTube).  All went well, with the exception that the Guggenheim do not choose my entry.  No biggie. What mattered most to me was that I start getting a grip on Flash as well as basic animation techniques.  I learned a lot and feel like I really overcame some serious hurdles.

On Star Trek Radio (STO-Radio): My podcasting partner since 2005, Zach Nicodemous at Hailing Frequency informed me he had the means to start the radio station we had always wanted.  Though it would no be the 'Fleet Radio' station I wanted, it would be under the web sites, startrekradio.com as well as STO-Radio.com.  After things went very very bad at subspace-radio.net (please boycott them, by the way) I was not sure if I wanted to broadcast at all anymore, but he talked me into it.  I'm glad I did.  It is a great station and we have some amazing DJ's and almost full 24/7 live coverage as well as the best fan made audio dramas.

On Chase Masterson:  What an amazing and beautiful woman. I'm really honored I was able to be a co-host on that interview. It was awesome finding out all the great projects she has been involved in since Trek. Her awards for Producing and the charities she helps out with.

On participating in the NASA/IBEX teleconference: I had nothing to loose by requesting Press access to the teleconference.  I was surprised that I actually got it.  So this afternoon, I tuned in and dialed-up and presented my question.  It was neat getting to say: "This is Anthony Tuthill for Star Trek Radio...".  I have been following the IBEX mission since launch and have a deep interest in the magnetic fields of our solar system as well as the possibility of being able to leverage them for space propulsion someday.

On Doc Sternbach.   I have interviewd the Doc a few times in the past and really felt the need to reconnect with him and find out what's new.  I'm in the process of scheduling a date to have him on-air in mid October.

On other celebs:  It looks like I may have an opportunity to interview Wil Wheaton ,  Rod Roddenberry, Warp 11, George Takei and possibly even William Shatner. Some may be very soon...   ...others may not be until next year.

SAVE the PRINCESS!

An all too familiar quest, I know.  Yet I implore you, my knights and my countrymen to rise once more to that most ancient and noble of quests. Save the Princess from the evil king(s).

Today's princess is, The Venetian Princess.  "The female Weird Al", "YouTube's #1 Most Subscribed Female"...and this is the plea from her tower:

Copied from Facebook:
Venetian Princess: Three of my videos have been claimed as copyright infringement by Sony Publishing. "Accident Prone" was completely removed from YouTube, while "Just A Zombie" and "Outerspace" are now monetized by Sony. Meaning they are making money off of my hard work.
As you guys know, the US Law protects parodies under fair use. But most of my videos are not even the same music, Steve and I re-write generic songs. Especially "Outerspace"- that's a whole original song on it's own. A completely different musical composition from Poker Face. So I here I sit, pondering what to do with my YouTube videos, and what my future on YouTube will now look like. As most of you have noticed, I've taken a bit of a break to step away from YouTube within the last few months. I've been focusing on family and "real life." AND planning new content with new ideas for videos I anticipated premiering in September. Now I don't know what I can do. It seems that my rights have been taken away from me.
YouTube is my life, it is how I make a living. Now a big time corporation is actually taking money away from me- that could have gone to my mortgage. Like they really need it. The songs are original and they simply have no right to monetize my work. That being said, I don't know where the future lies for me in terms of youtube. But I do know that above all of this, you guys brought me to the success level I was able to get to. So even if I never make a video ever again, I want you guys to know I appreciate all of the wonderful support you all have given me. I could not have asked for anything more. YOU guys mean the world to me. Whether it's on YouTube or some other platform, I hope to share my passion of making videos with you again in some form or another.

Bye bye for now
♥ Jodie

I am very interested what the U.S. Copyright Office & Google are going to do about this.

What does this mean for Google & YouTube?

What does this mean for you and I, my knights and my countrymen?! Let us find out! Let us take up the quest to use whatever news powers we have to raise this to the eyes of the network, to all YouTube users & to the world.

WHAT A MONTH! I AM EPIC FAIL!

Sorry I have been off the radar!  Not a moment could be spared this month for anything but the two projects I wanted to get done. Participating in YouTube/Ridley Scott/Scott McDonalds: Life in a Day project and entering a submission in the YouTube/Guggenheim Biennial event.

For the Guggenheim Biennial event (this story ends tragically by the way) I spent twenty six days working on 'Permanent'. An attempt at 'basic' animation in flash video and an attempt to capture the core ideas behind the 'The Lost Book of Enki' ( a pre-diluvial tale) by scholar/Sumerian tablet translator/author, Zecharia Sitchin.

I kept, Disney's "The Illusion of Life' beside me ever moment and though I had read it dozens of times over the years none of it was actually meaningful until I started to try and animate. At that point every word in the book was important and I hung on every word as well as watching the live motion version on YouTube.

I have nothing but respect for animators and was barely able to scratch the surface of techniques like: Squash, stretch, overlapping action, timing, weight, mass, staging, layouts, story development, character design, coloring, effects and above all...Sequential Art.

So I spent every waking moment I could working on 'Permanent' and on July 31'st, I missed the submission deadline!

I 'assumed' I would have until midnight on July 31st and it seems the deadline was 'noon' on July 31st.   I have submitted the video anyway and written Guggenheim for mercy and to at least watch it at this point.
So yeah.  Tragic ending on a fantastic month of learning animation and trying to find my inner Walt Disney.

I need to make a new tee-shirt.   "I AM  EPIC FAIL!"

Life in a Day.  In an attempt to see what this computer could do I participated in 'LIFE IN A DAY" a historic YouTube/Ridley Scott/Scott McDonald project.  I had never done anything like it, nor had I ever worked with video clips to make a project before.   I almost killed my computer trying to encode the final video in HD at 1080p.  I can't say it is anything spactacular at all...but I did it.

So, dear friends.   Quite the busy month for me.

I hope you enjoy PERMANENT and I hope I do not cause you any permanent pain.  If you find yourself disturbed after watching it please consult your clergy, nearest biblical scholar or the Vatican.   I am not trying to be offensive or in the wrong on this take of bibilcal/mythology/history.

Hot new graffiti artist: C A I T

Anyone trying to look at my portfolio in the last 24 hrs saw that it was taken over for the 4th of July by my daughter, Cait.

Cait is not in high school yet & has been drawing non-stop, almost every single day for over six years.

She stuck to drawing Marvel-esque & Anime for the last few years but has recently moved on to Graffiti design.

As a father I am biased.  As an artist, I have to say: I was not doing advanced design until mid-high school years. She demonstrates remarkable design skills and an understanding of advanced composition.  She demonstrates an understanding of how to 'lead the eye'. Her color work is fantastic and I look forward to seeing her use other mediums.

Other observations: Like I & like many kids who start out drawing with outlines & stick figures, Cait started off drawing solid shaped objects.

My daughter, Cait. 100% artist.

Next Gen Energy Arrives!? CNN to report on man building Bussard Polywell

In 2007, I saw a video with the late Dr. Robert Bussard. In it he discusses the billions of dollars & half a lifetime spent chasing the 'Tokamak' reactor to total failure.  In the end, with little support & funding, he made the breakthrough.  The 'POLYWELL'.  (very long, very deep...life changing :) ) (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polywell  )

I knew of Dr. Bussard because of Star Trek & the technology described in the Star Trek Technical Manuals for the star ship Enterprise.  The devices on the front end of the nacelles of the Enterprise are Bussard Ramscoops & the 'flashing bulbs' on the front are the reactors harnesing what is pulled in by the Ramscoops. I believe we can now say that what are in those bulbs are Bussard Polywells (not Tokamak technology).

Shortly thereafter I discovered the web site of a person building one. http://prometheusfusionperfection.com/     The above web-site just Tweeted that CNN will be in the lab with them this evening.  I am very much looking forward to that report.

A few months back I 'heard' the device (or the sound of the Geiger Counter, reading the device) on a radio-station in the inventor's area.
-------
Odd related event:  2008. Las Vegas Hilton. Star Trek Convention floor:  I get a cell phone call from a 'Mr. Kirk'. who asks, "You know about Polywell?".   "Yes, sir.  I do." Says, I.  "We need to talk about this some more at a later time." "Alright, sir."  : click ::call ends ::    I have never heard back from, Mr. Kirk.   :)
